5 out of 5 stars A flotation swimsuit that actually works!   August 31, 2006

We have tried numerous flotation swimsuits, life jackets for our 3-year-old little boy. They were all a huge disappointment - either his mouth was under water or the flotation device overpowered him, bobbing him forward or backward into the water. This swim trainer by Swimline solved the problem, it does exactly what it's supposed to do - keep the child above water, either in an upright or swimming position. He can move freely and switch between swimming and upright floating effortlessly, never losing his balance or confidence.
The vest style upper body goes on and off very easily. We also tried a similar swim trainer with attached shorts, and found that the crotch would just ride up, making it quite uncomfortable for little boys. We prefer this 'vest only' style, worn with regular swim shorts. It stays on him till an adult takes it off. Our son likes to be thrown up in the air, and then splash into the water - the swim trainer stays on him nicely, he cannot slip out of it, no matter how wiggly he gets.
Wearing the swim trainer with regular shim shorts is also nice when we are at the beach or pool party - don't have to strip the child naked when he is ready to get out of the water. He can keep his swim shorts on and continue to play on dry land.
It has a strong inner tube built-in (NOT like the cheap plastic rings that made of material like beach balls). You need a bike pump or air compressor to inflate - if you don't have one, you can take it to the gas station, and use the same pump that you use for your car tires. You cannot blow this up by mouth.
It is truly a great item, looks nice, durable, affordable and most importantly, WORKS. We are very pleased.

5 out of 5 stars My only complaint is I wish they made a bigger size!   May 13, 2009

My daughter has used a Swimline Swim Tee Trainer since she was 18 months old. She is a larger than average 3 year old (44 inches tall, 60 pounds), so this year she will not be able to wear the Swim Tee Trainer. I am very disappointed, but will continue to search for a similar product in her size.

The Swim Tee Trainer is wonderful! It keeps the child upright without limiting their mobility. I do not like the trainers that have the built in legs, as they hurt the crotch area as the child tries to swim or if someone tries to pick the child up or pull them through the water by their arms.

I am able to relax a bit in the pool while my daughter has this on. It is not something you can put on the child & leave the child unattended, but you do not have to hover like you do with the styrofoam vests.

You inflate the tube fully when the child first starts using it. As the child's swimming ability progresses, you can let some air out if you choose. One swim tee got us through 2 summers of almost daily use. After that, it finally gave and we had to purchase another.

Do not waste your money on other swim trainers. This really is the best one out there.

5 out of 5 stars just perfect   August 19, 2009

After reading many positive reviews, we purchased this for big 19 month old (26 lbs). He has used it daily from early June through present (late August); he is now almost 22 months, 30 lbs. the swim tee is just perfect. We used a auto repair station to have the tube inflated as had heard that novices sometimes over-inflate causing dangerous rupture as the tube is heavy-duty; after about a month and a half of use, we had the tube re-filled at gas station. At first baby had to learn to balance/control his body (this took two swim sessions). In a week he could twirl around, float on back, kick rapidly to get wherever he desires. The velcro/crotch strap stretched after a bit, so I saftey pinned it permanently and simply have the child step in, then we pull up the arms (after so much use, the arms have also stretched a bit, but so far this is no big deal.) We stay at least an arms length close to him, for if other children are around, they sometimes grab onto the baby/swim tee to use as a floatation device; this of course causes the baby in swim tee to go under. Also if others are making big waves, baby sometimes gulps water as he floats about. We used this at a vacation hotel for a month and everyone else had their babies in awkward life jackets or cheap plastic inflatables with big roofs/awnings/ attachments. Our little guy was joyfully swimming circles around the other babies his age and it was common to get many inquiries about where the swim tee could be purchased.

5 out of 5 stars swim trainer   June 26, 2007

We purchased the tee trainer for our 3 year old grandson. Last year he had the swim sweater, which gave him confidence and taught him balance in the water. Him being a year older wanted another one for him. With this swim trainer he has really gained his confidence in the water and allows him to be self suficient in the water. He has learned to float with confidence. He is now swimming, of course not on his own yet. I would recommend this product for the older toddler. It also allows the child to have some freedom and not have to be held by an adult. Supervision is still required but the child gains a tremendous amount of confidence and allows them to overcome some of the fears of the water. our grandson swims everyday and enjoys his freedom in the water. We found it is also a safety for the toddler if there are a lot of people around. Our son who is now 28 years old also had the swim sweater when he was a toddler. He is a fantastic swimmer.

5 out of 5 stars Finally a product that floats!   June 5, 2009

So far for me it's the only product which floats and holds my toddler on the water. The bottom piece of cloth sometimes gets detached though, so it's better to sew it by hand. If you don't have a pump, you'll have to take it somewhere to get it blown (pump does not come with it). Otherwise a safe product, promotes child's independence in the water.
