Too SmallAugust 22, 2010 midwestmouse(Midwest USA) Purchased this for my 3 1/2 yr old grandson. He is very lean but it was next to impossible to get it on. It was too short to use the under strap. When he had it on he did enjoy it as it worked very well supporting him. BUT when we had to take it off he looked like Houdini getting out of the straight jacket!! He refused to put it on again He said "it hurts". I had very similar trainer when my boys were young and it was great but this one has a definite design flaw.
Reviewing the seller rather than the productAugust 6, 2010 Laura Girard I haven't actually used the product yet, but I wanted to put in a warning for those purchasing this product. The Swim-tee doesn't have a size that you can choose so I looked at the weight range and my son's weight fell within that range. He is 15 months old and wearing 18 month clothing so he's not that big for his age. I also chose a blue swim-tee, which at the time was priced higher than the yellow one. When I received the product, it was yellow, not the blue one I paid more for and the size said that it was for children 4 years old and up. Luckily, my son fits in it and I thought I was going to use it sooner than I did so I thought I didn't have time to return it so I didn't. The information was very misleading and it seemed like the seller didn't pay any attention to what was purchased and just put the first thing they grabbed in the box. I would suggest more detailed information for buyers about the product.
Great productAugust 6, 2010 S. Klaasen(Atlanta, USA) I've tried several swim trainers with the goal mostly to find something that will make my toddler a bit more independent in the water. I finally ordered this one after a few false starts with other products. It was easy to inflate with a bicycle pump and fit my 2 1/2 year old daughter well (however I can see how this may be tight on an older/bigger child). Once she got into the pool, the tendency was indeed to flip onto her face, but she (and I) soon figured out that it's all about learning balance in the water. Initially I held her hand or the tube as she got used to it, but by the end of the pool day she was floating on her own. I would not recommend to leave your child alone in this (or any other trainer unless they can swim), however it will certainly buy you a few extra seconds if they fall into the pool. It does provide some independence and I can see that over time she (and I) will become more confident which will mean that I will not constantly have to hold her in my arms.
The strap is a bit too short I think and does cause a wedgie as other reviewers stated. She is still wearing a swim diaper, so it seemed not to bother her that much, but I think it will bother her over time. I like the concept of the strap and may just lengthen it by sewing an extra piece onto it. Alternatively once she gets a bit bigger, I can probably go without the strap.
The product itself seems to be of good quality and I think it will last several seasons/children. I recommend this product.
Great for learning to swim!April 6, 2010 jetsetmom(Canada) This is a fantastic swim trainer...it is best used indeed as a trainer to help kids feel confident in the water. I bought this for my 2 year old and he used it but I had to hold him up still, but now at three he can swim confidently without me holding him.It is AMAZING help especially if you have a baby(like me) to look after at the pool and beach too. He swims it and also plays in sand on beach, or poolside and I don't have to be standing so close. This is not a life jacket, but they cant fall under water,because of the strong inner tube. Always, have your child within your full view, but I can at least carry on a conversation and hold on my baby-instead of holding on to my 3 year old AND the baby. Best item on the market.Not for newborns (2 yrs+up).Totally recommend this product. No downsides at all.
swim trainerDecember 16, 2009 A. Lee(Lawrence, KS) We bought this for our 18 month old. I was a little worried because she is very small for her age but the swim trainer worked great. It was a little big but didn't seem to matter once in the water. It took her about a day to figure it out but once she did she was swimming everywhere.
