We originally got these for my daughter, who then passed them on to my son when she learned how to swim. They've been used for at least four years, not a lot each year, but maybe once or twice a week during the summers. They were accidentally left in a pool overnight and were half bleached out, yet are as soft as the day we bought them.
These swimmies are great for two main reasons: They have a flat side to them which makes them fit the arm better and makes them more comfortable, and they are covered in a fabric that also provides comfort and reduces the chances of irritated skin that I often noticed with the plain plastic swimmies.
My son weighs about 50 pounds and they hold him up no problem. I don't remember having to add air to them, but maybe we've added air once or twice since we've gotten them. They are reliable and last for a long time. Next year I think we will be passing them to our youngest. I highly recommend them!

We have had the first pair of these for 4+ years of swimming each summer now and they're still holding up! These are by far so much better than the cheapies that are not fabric covered. The fabric protects the inflatble compartment from surprise holes or leaks. The second pair I recently purchased as a back up pair.
Very nice, but beware that you cannot select the colorAugust 12, 2010 Julie Horsley These are very nice swimmies. Thick, comfortable and durable. For toddlers with very sensitive skin, these are ideal versus the plastic swimmies. However when I purchased them, the product description did not state that "colors may vary." I thought I was getting the orange swimmies as shown in the picture, yet the ones I received were pink and I do not care to get tagged at the pool as the lady who lets her son wear pink. He is an only child, and I didn't know of any little girls I could pass them to. I had to return them, and I really would like to order more but since the colors vary and we have no choice, I'm afraid I'd wind up with pink again. Anything but pink would totally work, so now I take my search to the stores themselves and must relinquish the convenience of "click and order."
